Cutting Boards
We believe our end grain cutting boards to be one of the finest additions
to a chef's toolkit available today.
Our end grain cutting boards are more durable and attractive than the standard
edge grain cutting boards in most home kitchens. They have been hand crafted
one at a time from domestic hardwoods (typically Maple and Cherry) using waterproof glue and stainless
steel fasteners and non toxic food safe finishes.
The end grain orientation (Look at the side of the board and you will see that
all the fibers in the wood are running vertically) of these boards is more durable
and at the same time more gentle to your knives edges. Instead of slicing across
the grain, imagine taking your knife and running it down through the bristles of a
paintbrush. You'll find that the edge on your knife will last much longer
between sharpenings.
The end grain is also to a degree somewhat self healing. Instead of severing the
fibers like you would with a standard board, the fibers are not cut, but instead
you are simply slicing between the fibers. The board will still show cut marks,
but it will last much longer than a normal board.
